Sen. Chuck Schumer loves the sound of his own voice, but it carried a bit farther than he might have liked on the US Airways shuttle from New York to Washington on Sunday.

According to a House Republican aide who happened to be seated nearby, the notoriously chatty New York Democrat referred to a flight attendant as a “bitch” after she ordered him to turn off his phone before takeoff.

Schumer and his seatmate, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), were chatting on their phones before takeoff when an announcement indicated that it was time to turn off the phones.

Both senators kept talking.

According to the GOP aide, a flight attendant then approached Schumer and told him the entire plane was waiting on him to shut down his phone.

Schumer asked if he could finish his conversation. When the flight attendant said “no,” Schumer ended his call but continued to argue his case.

He said he was entitled to keep his phone on until the cabin door was closed. The flight attendant said he was obliged to turn it off whenever a flight attendant asked.

“He argued with her about the rule,” the source said. “She said she doesn’t make the rules, she just follows them.”

When the flight attendant walked away, the witness says Schumer turned to Gillibrand and uttered the B-word.

“The senator made an off-the-cuff comment under his breath that he shouldn’t have made, and he regrets it,” Schumer spokesman Brian Fallon told Shenanigans.

A Christmas Story

We went to see A Christmas Story over the weekend and it was fantastic! It's a play based off the movie I'm sure you've seen repeating 24/7 around Christmas every year.

Six actors played all the characters and it was very entertaining..especially since we had great seats. It was a small venue and you couldn't get a bad seat now that I think about it. It was also impressive to watch all the "behind the scenes" work the other actors were doing on stage to prep for the next scene, etc. while "Ralphie" would talk to the crowd.

A nice touch was that ...the sister?..or someone related to the director of the original film had THE Red Rider Rifle bb gun to let the cast borrow for the show.

Iron Maiden: Flight 666

These guys were my favorite musicians as a youngster and I still count them in my top 5 bands - Yeah I'm a child of the 80s.

Not long ago I watched a documentary called Iron Maiden: Flight 666 and my respect for them increase ten fold. Also, just the idea of the singer flying the band to the shows, well the whole thing is just an amazing journey and you won't be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the 80's metal scene or just interested in a very very well done documentary, don't miss this!

...The Maiden tour plan was something that had never been attempted before on such a grand scale. Circumnavigating the globe, the band flew in a specially customised Boeing 757 airliner with their crew and 12 tons of music and stage equipment on board, playing 23 sold out stadium and arena shows in 13 countries in just 45 days, travelling 70,000km and performing to almost half a million fans...

The songs were said to be played for hours -- sometimes days, a practice the musicians say amounted to torture, and one the Obama administration says has been discontinued.

Its been two years today since I started dating Tonya. After she left this evening, I looked around the house and I looked at her pictures on the wall, her cards, notes she left me, etc. and it just takes my breath away that someone could care so much about me. That someone could love me so completely despite all my faults.

When you love someone, things can get so easy... easy to talk to, share, understand, be with, help, support, you name it. The dates are implied, time spent is implied, you know how it is.. its almost routine and there you go..its also easy to get too comfortable and if you make that mistake, you'll see the sand start slipping between your fingers. A lil here, a lil there... maybe you wait too long and look down and realize you don't have any left and you are out of time.

I just wanted to say I love you Tonya and I'm glad you are with me through the good times and bad. I'll love you till I'm not here any more.

I was so lookin forward to Patton Oswalt's stand up that was coming on Sunday night on Comedy Central. Good stuff - Funny stuff but as usual since Obama is super cool, he still had to trash Bush. Also, when you are too lazy to mow, just go from having a huge backyard to a very small backyard and let the trees and weeds take over. It looks like forest but thats actually the backyard!!

Daystar 2.5" level kit and shocks

Upgraded the shocks and installed (well Roy did LOL) the 2.5" level kit from Daystar. Brings the front end up like it should be from the factory. The ride is much better aside from a bang on large drops / bumps which seems to be from the upper control arm hitting the spring. If it gets too annoying, I'll go with a 2" level. I also used some dental floss and removed the big chrome "RAM" letters on the doors as well as the ram symbol on the tailgate (that one was a real beyotch).

Test ride - 2009 Jeep Patriot 4X4

While I was at the dealership getting Tonya's Grand Cherokee serviced, I checked out a Jeep Patriot. I was surprised that the fit and finish was as good as my former ride, a Hyundai Tucson. The interior looked really nice, the seats folded flat and after seeing the mpg figures, I had to ask for a test ride.

I only rode it for 14 miles but I was very impressed by the short drive. The 2.4 liter 4 banger had a CVT transmission which I didn't mind at all (my old Prius didn't have gears either). With a 5 speed, this lil guy gets 28 on the highway - very cool when you consider this is a 4x4 with a locking differential.

Way to go, Jeep - but I think you need to spend a few advertising bucks on this one. Its a winner.

McNair Filmed Suicide Prevention PSA Shortly Before Death

Before his unexpected death on July 4, former Tennessee Titan quarterback Steve McNair had continued his tradition of civic involvement by filming a public service announcement for the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, The City Paper has learned.

Sources say the advertisement was filmed, and editors were working on taglines and voiceovers when the deaths were discovered.

When asked about the existence of the PSA, the mental health department confirmed that the filming had occurred.

China's vehicle sales in June rose to 1.14 million, the second-highest month to date after April's 1.15 million units, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said. Passenger car sales hit a monthly record of 872,900 units.

China's auto sales weakened in late 2008 as the global financial crisis hit but rebounded after Beijing launched a stimulus package with sales tax cuts, subsidies to trade in older cars and other incentives.

They said they may never know what was going through Sahel Kazemi's mind when she shot McNair in his condominium early Saturday, but interviews with friends led detectives to conclude she was becoming increasingly distraught over events in her life, including financial problems. Police said she also suspected McNair was seeing another woman.

I love my truck. Its big, comfortable, looks great (to me) but loves gas.

I owned a Prius several years ago and it was a good car. I still remember being on the way to a gig and running out of gas on the interstate. I used the battery only to crawl to the exit and I made it right to the pump at a gas station with 2% charge remaining, absolutely amazing (and stressful)!! I also remember a pickup truck (Thanks Jamie) backing into my right rear wheel as I was leaving our work parking lot. The entire back end of the car moved a good foot. I deserved it since I saw it coming but thought he was going to stop. ANYWAY, the point was the truck kept backing out and my car gave. Obvious scenario, right? Lil car, big truck...

So fast-forward to the present day - Everyone is green. We have lightbulbs to save us energy but of course they hardly give off any light. We have trash companies advertising how they help our planet as they fill up our landfills, we make more hybrids which are probably worse on the environment than just using more gas. The list goes on and on.

Cars... one of the biggies is MPG, small cars, being efficient and so forth. I'm all for efficiency but I don't think you should be forced to sacrifice safety for yourself or your family members. I think now that the US goverment is getting its greedy hands in our auto industry, its just a matter of time for them to do what they are going to do to our healthcare system due to the perceived healthcare crisis (thats a whole other discussion).

Small cars are nice if you need a cheap way to get to work. Small cars are nice if you are on a tight budget. But, if you get in an accident, a small car can get you killed.

"Thats BS!!! My Honda Fit has a FIVE STAR frontal and drivers side crash rating!" ... yeah, so you can feel safe if you hit another Honda Fit or a Yugo or something. The ratings are for hitting a similar sized vehicle.

So keeping with the Honda Fit (which I think is a super neat car), what happens when it hits a Honda Accord?

"In the case of the Honda Fit, which was crashed into a Honda Accord, the Fit's crash test dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, and showed a high likelihood of leg injury as well. There was also significant crushing of the Fit's passenger compartment."

What about Toyota Yaris (another cool lil car) hitting a Camry?

Here in the small town where I work, there is a lady that buzzes around in a "smart fortwo" micro car. Its cute, gets great mileage but this thing is TINY. I think this thing may be 10% safer than just being on a motorcycle.

Here's what happened when the test smart fortwo hit a mercedes:
The ultra-small Smart ForTwo was knocked into an airborne 450-degree spin when it was smashed into a Mercedes-Benz C-class sedan. (Smart and Mercedes-Benz are both products of Germany's Daimler AG (DAI).) That contributed to "excessive movement" of the dummy inside, the Institute said. Injuries, especially to the head and legs, would be likely in a crash like this.

So... think about all the folks you see texting on the road when you commute. Bad drivers are everywhere and I notice it getting worse all the time. Yep thats right, 10+ years and 20+ bikes later, I'm done! I just don't get the same thrill out of it like I used to. Part of it is the safety factor, a large part of it is sorry ass drivers and another part of it are the other folks who actually ride. The whole fake "I'm a biker, check me out" aspect just ruins it for me. You know how it is.... you see them everywhere, trying to look like a bad ass outlaw on their slow Harleys and imitation Japanese cruisers, its almost comical!

Anyway, I'm looking into convertibles or maybe just a sporty car down the road to still have some fun.

Like a lot of folks with trees, I was getting tired of having to clean out my gutters. There are gutter guards, gutter brushes, etc. and unfortunately just about everything is overly expensive!

I was about to give up when I found Gutter Champ. Its a cheap and simple solution that works as advertised. So far we've gone through terrible downpours, severe wind and a few tornado watches and warnings and my gutters are fine and the open cell polyurethane pieces are still where I put em!

Sounds simple enough but its always a big deal for me to find some decent shoes. I don't want a pair to wear if I'm going to hear a band play, a different pair to put on when I commute to work on my bike, and another to hike a mile or so through our plant. The one that fit the bill years ago was a work boot made by Dunham. I purchased them through brownsnewbalance.com and they have incredible customer service.

As the shoes were more than showing their age, I went to the website and - great...THEY ARENT OFFERED ANYMORE! Went to zappos.com and they don't offer em either. ..that means its most likely discontinued. Tonya and I went through a mall and couldn't find anything close to them. My luck changed after looking through Amazon as one seller has a bunch of them for less than $65 shipped. This is a steal! In addition, these take the same super comfort and looks that the old ones had and adds the steel toes! Never know when that will come in handy :)

I can't say enough about these shoes, they are that good. The only negative is that they are made in China; A move that happened after New Balance bought Dunham I believe. Even so, its a great shoe at a great price and they aren't gonna be around much longer...I'm about to order a 3rd pair to stuff in the closet.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Health and Human Services nominee Kathleen Sebelius recently corrected three years of tax returns and paid more than $7,000 in back taxes after finding "unintentional errors"—the latest tax troubles for an Obama administration nominee.

The Kansas governor explained the changes to senators in a letter dated Tuesday that the administration released. She said they involved charitable contributions, the sale of a home and business expenses.

Sebelius said she filed the amended returns as soon as the errors were discovered by an accountant she hired to scrub her taxes in preparation for her confirmation hearings. She and her husband, Gary, a federal magistrate judge in Kansas, paid a total of $7,040 in back taxes and $878 in interest to amend returns from 2005-2007.

Asked by The Associated Press to comment on the amended tax returns as she left a Capitol Hill restaurant Tuesday night, Sebelius said, "We put out a statement and the statement speaks for itself."

Several Obama administration nominees have run into tax troubles, notably the president's first nominee for HHS secretary, former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle. He withdrew from consideration while apologizing for failing to pay $140,000 in taxes and interest.

Before I even posted a motorcycle seat for sale, someone local offered to come up that evening and buy it. Awesome!

He's a Vandy student, a local guy, he's coming that evening, no problem.

Hours go by, he never calls, never shows up.

The next day, I contact him to see if he's still interested. "Oh my bad, didn't have the car to be able to get it" ... ok... "I'll get it right after work..." ...ok...

So that evening, still no email, no call, nobody at my door. I think to myself, "If this jerk doesn't show up by the time my friend Bill O'Reilly wraps up his show, I'm posting it on the forum, screw this". Sure enough, no call, etc.

I log on, post the seat for sale, and in LESS THAN NINE MINUTES, I sell the seat. Not only do I sell it, I actually sell it for more than I bought it for :)
A few days go by and the guy finds out that he bought the wrong kind of seat. He made his purchase in less than 9 minutes of me posting the sale!!! No kiddin you bought the wrong thing!! So of course, he wants his money back and additionally, for me to split the shipping cost of getting the perfectly good seat back to my home. ...no...

So I send the guy $50 as a "no hard feelings, do a better job next time before spending your cash" through Paypal and he rejects it and files a complaint with PayPal. WHAT? So within a short amount of time, Paypal says they aren't gonna get involved then the guy wants his $50 back. ...no...

Long and short, I get doubleteamed with bad press by both Mr. No Show and Mr. Impulse Buyer. "Watch out for this guy" "I had cash in hand walking out the door and he sells the seat to another person!!! BUYER BEWARE" etc. etc. etc. I get warned for calling Mr. No Show a moron and .. well then just a tad worse to get banned. Oh well...

Lesson for the day - Use a service like Paypal to help keep you from getting burned, they backed me up on my sale! Lastly, don't go by the honor system because very few people nowadays have any.

Well Billy is out. Billy Gillispie is a hell of a coach with a record for getting the job done before coming to Kentucky. We Kentucky fans are a horrible fickle bunch and just after a year from Billy getting honors as the SEC Coach of the Year (his 1st year mind you), he's been fired. What the hell is wrong with you people.

We can elect the same dirtbags every 2 and 4 and 6 years while they spread chaos and screw everything up....but we can fire a college basketball coach quicker than it takes to fix a sandwich. Think about that.

The good news is there are some good coaches out there, particularly Billy Donovan who I have always thought is a perfect fit. The bad news, most of our fans (like most folks who bother to vote), are idiots.

For months, the Obama administration and members of Congress have known that insurance giant AIG was getting ready to pay huge bonuses while living off government bailouts. It wasn't until the money was flowing and news was trickling out to the public that official Washington rose up in anger and vowed to yank the money back.

In a dramatic reversal Wednesday, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., confessed to adding language to a spending cap in the stimulus bill last month that specifically excluded executive bonuses included in contracts signed before the bill's passage.

Dodd told FOX News that Treasury officials forced him to make the change.

"As many know, the administration was, among others, not happy with the language. They wanted some modifications to it," he said. "They came to us, our staff, and asked for changes, and the changes at the time did not seem that obnoxious or onerous."

That quick charge time and increased energy density takes a lot of the fire out of the traditional anti-electric vehicle arguments.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House objected Thursday to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's description of the United States as a "deadbeat" donor to the world body.

Ban used the phrase Wednesday during a private meeting with lawmakers at the Capitol, one day after he met with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Ban's "word choice was unfortunate," given that the U.S. is the largest contributor to the United Nations.

The United States pays 22 percent of the organization's nearly $5 billion operating budget but is perennially late paying its dues.

....how about we quit paying that much since we are deadbeats? Hey wait a minute, didn't we keep you guys from being overrun by the Chinese? Go back to South Korea.

McALESTER, Okla. — A 23-year-old inmate beaten to death at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary had been put in a cell with convicted killer he had testified against.

Prison spokesman Jerry Massie says Paul Duran Jr. fought with one cellmate and then was put in a cell with Jessie James Dalton.

Duran was found beaten to death about 15 minutes later.

Massie says the two were not supposed to be put in the same cell and prison officials are trying to determine how it happened.

Duran and Dalton were co-defendants in the January 2002 shooting death of Billy Wayne Ray in Oklahoma City.

Duran pleaded guilty to a robbery charge and testified against Dalton who was convicted of murder and sentenced to life without parole.

Massie says investigators will present their findings to a district attorney who will decide if criminal charges will be filed.
